Amit Agarwal of Labnol has found an easy way to the latest magazines like PC Magazine, MIT Technology Review, Popular Mechanics, MacWorld, Lonely Planet, Reader’s Digest, etc without paying any subscription charges using Safari Browser for Windows.

Here’s how you can read them, in simple steps using firefox as shared by Gopinath M and remus.

1. Install User Agent FireFox Addon [ addon homepage ]
2. Add a new user agent,
   a. Navigate to Tools –> Addons –> Select User Agent Switcher and click Options –> Click User Agent and Press Add [ To add new user-agent ] .
   b. Enter the following details* Description: iPhone
   * User Agent: Mobile Safari 1.1.3 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en)
   * App Name: AppleWebKit/420+ (KHTML, like Gecko)
   * App Version: Version/3.0
   * Platform: Mobile/1A542a Safari/419.3

   

3. Change the User-Agent to iPhone and browse to zinio.com/iphone and start reading your favorite magazines for free.

Using such services to post articles to your blog’s might not be a good option as you need to provide your sever details and login details so be careful, This can be used as a simple word processing tool and do remember to clear your cookies after finishing your work using this tool at public places.

If you are a Mac OSX user you can change the dock style, LeopardDocks offers many dockstyles to download for free for your OS.

To install the docks follow these steps

1. Click the ‘Download’ button above the image of the dock you want

2. Open the folder System/Library/CoreServices/

3. Control-/right-click on Dock.app and choose “Show Package Contents”

4. Navigate to Contents/Resources/

5. Make a backup of all of the “scurve” .PNG files and then get rid of them from that folder (authentication may be required)

6. Copy the contents of the downloaded file into this folder.

7. Open up Terminal.app and type “killall Dock” (without quotes)

Mac OS X is know for the dock which has ‘fish-eye’ effect, whereby icons expand and contract as the mouse moves over them.This can be achieved in JavaScript using the Mac-style Dock.

It is compatible with most modern browsers, the compatible browsers are

But there are 2 usability issues

Firstly, the dock is generated entirely using JavaScript. If no alternative navigation is available then the site will be impossible to navigate for those without JavaScript.

Secondly, the dock item magnification, because the dock icons expand dynamically, they move on screen.
