What is svchost ?

Svchost, stands for “Service Host”. Many components of the Windows operating system are implemented as what are called “services” that are implemented in DLL’s (which cannot be called like .exe files) which are a library of functions that can be called by running programs.svchost executes services that are implemented in DLLs for the called programs .

There are multiple svchost, so that crash of one does not bring down all other services so they are logically grouped by for each application.

svchost process on Windows OS which are in multiple instances which are associated with one or more services associated with that instance, and svchost virus, trojans, spyware use the same file and process name to hide their activities a virus affecting svchost making it difficult to identify from the multiple instances of the svchost process.
Svchost Process Analyzer is a portable application that lists all svchost instances and checks the services they contain and shows warning if any and the total number of svchost processes and the total number of services attached to them.
