Offlate has your system working slow, the startup and shutdown is also taking more time,Disk fragmentation could be one of the reason. Defragmentation is the process of rewriting non-contiguous parts of a file to contiguous sectors on a disk for the purpose of increasing data access and retrieval speeds. In case of a disk failure, the chances of data recovery are higher, when the data on the disk is defragemnted.
Why does Fragmentation occur ?
Fragmentation is caused by creating and deleting files and folders, installing new software, and downloading files from the Internet. Computers do not save an entire file or folder in a single contiguous space on a disk, they’re saved in the first available space. After a large portion of a disk has been used, most of the subsequent files and folders are saved in pieces across the volume.Which leads to higher access time in reading/retreiving data, leading to slower system performance.
A freeware called Disk Defrag from Auslogics, can do the work of defragmenting your drive. It works on Windows XP/Vista/2000/2003, Yes even Windows VISTA!!.
