spypigTill date you can never be sure if the mail you sent has been read by the recipient, but a new service called SpyPig lets you know whether the you sent has been read or not.

SpyPig is a simple email tracking system that sends you a notification email as soon as the recipient opens and reads your message. It works with most of the modern email programs like : Outlook, Eudora, Yahoo Email, Gmail, Hotmail, AOL Email and many others.

To use the service

  1. Visit SpyPig.com
  2. Enter your email address to which the notification should be sent by email when your message has been read.
  3. Give your message a unique title.
  4. Select one of the SpyPig tracking images.
  5. Copy the SpyPig image and then paste it anywhere into your email message body. (Make sure you use an HTML-formatted email, not a plain-text or rich-text email.)

The drawbacks with this service is that

  • Both you and the recipient must use an HTML-formatted email, not a plain-text or rich-text formatted email.
  • SpyPig doesn’t seem to work if you use a Firefox browser (at least on PC).
  • Number of notifications cannot be user defined, presently fixed for 5 notifications per email.

The best part is that this service is free.
