2 Tools to Protect Your Eyes and Remind Users to Take Short Breaks While Long Hours In Front Of Computers

Do you spend lot of time in front of your computer ? Then there’s very good chance of you risking strain to your delicate eyes and also to your body due to sitting for long hours, which I can understand you cannot avoid but I’am sure you can avoid a lot of heath problems arising from a desk job related with a computer.

Here are a 2 more tools that help you keep your eyes healthy.

[1] F.lux – This a very useful program because it helps auto adjust the brightness of the screen based on the timing so that the user does not stare at a bright screen during the nights, which can strain your eye.Just set your location from the F.lux settings and the kind of lighting you have and F.lux will do the rest, automatically.

For setting your location and for previewing how the brightness of your screen would look like across a 24hr time period, right click on the F.lux Tray icon and select “Preview” for brightness preview or change lighting and change location on right clicking the tray icon.

To enter your location here – In the Google Map, where you can get the latitude and longitude for your location from the Google Map by entering your location.The latitude and logitude values can be then copy-pasted into the F.lux Settings.

F.lux is compatible with Windows, Linux and Mac OS.

In case you are working on color sensitive app like Photoshop or video editing, then F.lux can also be disabled temporarily.

[2] EyeDefender – This similar to AntiRSI and Workrave EyeDefender reminds users of breaks during which you can do simple exercises to relax your eyes which commonly suffer due to working on a computer for hours and the condition is called Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS).

EyeDefender is a simple remind you to take a break and relax eyes at fixed intervals and sits in the system tray and displays the time left until the next break. When the time for a break comes, the program can be set to do one of the following:

To set the the time period for a popup reminder and how much time you want to rest your eyes during break, simply right click on “Settings” to configure EyeDefender.
