Online security for data is always important, and with increasing web2.0 services, social networking and webmail services, its always good to use a HTTPS login and not a http login (if available),but not many users are aware of the https:// url of the webservice.
Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) is a combination of the Hypertext Transfer Protocol with the SSL/TLS protocol to provide encryption and secure identification of the server.HTTPS connections are often used for payment transactions on the World Wide Web and for sensitive transactions in corporate information systems.

HTTPS Secure is a Google Chrome extension that can automatically redirect users to the https:// version of the webpage if available so that the chances of eavesdropping is minimized.
If you are aware of the https:// version of the webpages, users can also add the https:// url to the “Always redirect to secure” column in the extensions options page, so that the next time you open webpage using http:// the url is auto redirected to the more secure https:// webpage minimizing risk of eavesdropping and improving data transfer security.
HTTPS Secure options can be changed from “Wrench –> Extensions –> Click Options in HTTPS Secure row
Such a feature must be a default on all browsers so that transactions are more secure and reliable.
Update –
- The plugin is no longer available on Google Extensions.
- Secure Sites is a alternative Google Chrome Extension for HTTPS Secure.
