Mac Notebooks May Have Battery Problems
Apple Inc. has said that some of its MacBook and MacBook Pro notebooks that were purchased between February 2006 and April 2007 may have battery performance problems but they do not pose a safety risk.
Apple has released a software update that is designed to improve battery performance. It can be downloaded via the Software Update or downloadable from here.
Symptoms of an affected battery are :
- Battery is not recognized causing an “X” to appear in the battery icon in the Finder menu bar.
- Battery will not charge when computer is plugged into AC power.
- Battery exhibits low charge capacity/runtime when using a fully charged battery with a battery cycle count of less than 300.
- Battery pack is visibly deformed.
The affected battery of the notebooks purchased between the mentioned period will be replaced free of charge by Apple if it continues not to perform after the software update. The replacement program would apply if the computer is out of warranty.
