My Location : Google Maps For Mobiles Without GPS
ADVERTISEMENTS
Google has launched a new version of Google Maps for Mobile phones with a new feature called " My Location " which works on both GPS enabled and also on phones without GPS with a bit of uncertainty and gives you your present location using which you can find services available around like Shops, Restraunts. It takes information broadcast from mobile towers near you to approximate your current location on the map (approximately 1000m close, on average). So the degree of uncertainty is because of it depends on the mobile towers.
Features:
- Unlike GPS, Google’s tracking feature works while handsets are indoors.
- Unlike GPS device, consumes less power from a phone’s battery.
- Works in more than 20 countries, including United States, much of Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the Russian Federation and Taiwan. It doesn’t yet work in China or Japan.
- Depends on Carrier signals, So the feature suffers if there is weak signal.
This feature can be used to see what services are near them, instead of having to enter their location manually.
The My Location feature is available for most web-enabled mobile phones, including Java, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, and Nokia/Symbian devices.
Download the software for your mobile phone from google.com/gmm.
