How To Password Protect Files and Folders Using ProtectMe

Securing data is always important, and if you use your system in public places or use a public system to store your files, then its important to know how to protect your files using simple tools.Once such simple to use tool is Protect Me, which can password protect any file with AES for encryption and SHA1 for password validation.This is a portable app and protects file/folders by storing them as .exe file and also password protect the content.

Here’s how to encrypt contents using Protect Me!

  • Run “Protect Me! 2010.exe” to launch “Protect Me !”.
  • Drag and Drop files into the container.
  • Next enter the password to protect the file
  • Click “Create Container” to save the password file as .exe

How to view the contents of the password protect file

  • Double Click the saved “.exe” file ex. images.exe
  • Enter the password for validation
  • Which shows the list of file and folder inside

Individual files or all the files can be extracted by selecting the file and clicking “Save As” or to extract all the files click “Extract Everything”.

File can also be previewed, by selecting the file and clicking “Run”.

This is a portable app and requires “.Net 3.0 Framework” and can be very handy in protecting files and folders on public systems.
